Turns out it was the process. Go figure. You can see the video here. Apple also refreshed the laptop lineup providing more power under the hood. There is a new look to the Macbook bringing it in line with the rest of the products (everything looks like the iPhone). Also an update to the monitors. The whole product lineup is looking sharp.

Well, there it is. WWDC Conference excitement has come and gone. You have the new iPhone. As predicted by many. It is tough for Apple to bring the big surprises like they used to. Still, we have 3g and we have mobile me. This has inspired me to re-up my dot mac account (it was expiring this month). Also, as suggested, the snow cat is on its way. And, of course, I will be in line for the new iPhone. Great price and promising battery life.

As a criminal defense attorney, one wonders about the implication of GPS. I presume one could subpoena the records of an ATT user to see where they had been and help either prove or disprove a persons whereabouts. There is something strangely 1984 about GPS tracking and video conferencing, in that companies have found a way to sell this and not make it seem ominous. In any event, the sword cuts both ways. We shall see.

And by Mac Lawyers, I mean Apple’s in-house counsel boost in billable hours, when they start litigation with Psystar. The blogs have been ablaze discussing the start-up that is proposing Mac Clones. Over the last 2 days the company has been making name changes in their products (losing the word Mac). Interested to see if they land on their feet? For me, this is not really an attractive offer. Why would I want a cheap Mac? Even if I was still using a PeeCee, I would not buy an Emachine. Part of the advantage of a Mac is that it uses hardware that is made to last. In the world of PC, your laptop is obsolete in a year and you desktop in two. You can at least double that for a Mac (some users would argue that you could triple it).

Usually when someone buys a ScanSnap for the Mac, the purchaser feels compelled to post on the list-serve about how great it is. It is nice that our love for Fujitsu is one thing we can agree on. Scan Snap is great. Frankly, there is not a lot to say about the hardware. You plug it in, spend about 60 seconds in “preferences” and you are well on your way to the paperless office. Please allow me to cast the first stone. There is no TWAIN for Adobe to run Scan Snap. Without going into detail, this means you have to use Scan Snaps software to scan. As such, there is the extra step of having to go back and add OCR, in Adobe, after the image is scanned. More of an irritant than a full fledged short-coming. Still, it had to be said. Scan Snap was still worth the purchase price (and it is not cheap). It is quick, easy to use, and continues to help us maintain a less-paper office. It has a small footprint and requires very little set-up.
