Nice to see but…meh.

Posted by: admin on January 7th, 2009

Nothing too exciting at Macworld, huh? Google did post that they are finally providing Picassa to the Mac-verse. Some updates to iLife, iWork, DRM free music and some of the other iBundled products (you can see the overview here). The unibody 17 inch Macbook Pro was given a refresh. But I was hoping for some waves. Certainly none of the bold predictions came to pass. Still if you were in the market for a Mac Book Pro and leaning toward the 17 inch, today was a good day.

So Close to Tetherball

Posted by: admin on August 1st, 2008

How disappointing. All of us were just a step away from tethering on our new iPhones. And look what Apple had to go and do.

No Macs!

Posted by: admin on July 31st, 2008

Oh the Bar. How I miss thinking about you day and night for weeks on end. Well, I had to borrow a PC when I took the test. Not much has changed. From the New York Times:

For Mac users with bad handwriting, there is no keyboarding option. The exam software is designed to run on Windows systems, and the New York board included this clause in its laptop policy, warning in capital letters: “We do not support Apple products in any form including Intel-based laptops running Boot Camp — no exceptions.”

Looking at Trial Preparation and Office Management With a Mac

Posted by: admin on June 21st, 2008

I just read the article posted on the 16th, from well-known Mac user Kern Lewis. Mr. Lewis goes through his set of reasons to switch to a Mac and, like any great trial lawyer, makes a very cogent case. The title of the article is Trial Preparation Made Easy With Macs and you can read it here

Announcements!

Posted by: admin on June 9th, 2008

Well, there it is. WWDC Conference excitement has come and gone. You have the new iPhone. As predicted by many. It is tough for Apple to bring the big surprises like they used to. Still, we have 3g and we have mobile me. This has inspired me to re-up my dot mac account (it was expiring this month). Also, as suggested, the snow cat is on its way. And, of course, I will be in line for the new iPhone. Great price and promising battery life.

As a criminal defense attorney, one wonders about the implication of GPS. I presume one could subpoena the records of an ATT user to see where they had been and help either prove or disprove a persons whereabouts. There is something strangely 1984 about GPS tracking and video conferencing, in that companies have found a way to sell this and not make it seem ominous. In any event, the sword cuts both ways. We shall see.

Macbook Air is Coming

Posted by: admin on January 15th, 2008

The rumor mill was cranking this past week. Most bloggers predicted a sub-notebook that would have a solid state drive. Sure enough, Apple introduced the Macbook Air.
In my post a week back, I asked for some updates to my Apple TV. Apple came through on this wish.

Law School Exam ‘MacGate’ Over, Non-PC Students OK

Posted by: admin on November 21st, 2007

Apparently a University is trying to compensate for the choice to run a Mac. Exam software for a law school exam is built for PC. Most schools will not allow emulation software or even allow dual boot (I don’t know why).

Because we want our students to concentrate exclusively on finals, the law school administration has determined to provide $12,000 towards the cost of laptop rental for all upper-level users of Macs that are incompatible with the exam software,” explain Dean Claudio Grossman and David Jaffe, the associate dean for student affairs, in a letter to the law school community.
